🛠️ Step-by-Step Installation: Fleeced®-On Bitumen System (Balcony Under-Screed & Tile Waterproofing)
-
Step 1: Surface Preparation
Clean the entire bathroom floor to remove dust, dirt, and debris.Patch any visible holes using non-shrink grout or tile adhesive cement. Ensure the surface is smooth and level before proceeding.
-
Step 2: Material Preparation & Dilution Guide
Stage 1 – Primering: Mix 1 cup Primer Bond + 1 cup Water.
Stage 2 – Fleece Application: Mix 1kg Solid Bitumen + 250ml Water.
Stage 3 – Finishing Layer: Mix 1kg Solid Bitumen + 100ml Water.
-
Step 3: Apply Primer mixture to the entire floor slab and wall skirting (up to 100mm high). Allow it to dry for at least 30 minutes before continuing.
-
Step 4: Pipe Collar Protection (PVC Pipe Area)
Stage 1 - Cut the fleece into a 30cm x 30cm square. Fold it in half, then fold diagonally again.
Stage 2 - Trim off the pointed tip to create a small opening.
Stage 3 - Carefully insert it over the PVC pipe until it fits around pipe.
-
Step 5: Apply Bitumen WB around the pipe area.
Place the fleece on the wet Bitumen, then immediately apply another coat of Bitumen WB on top until fully sealed.
-
Step 6: First Layer – Floor Area (Wet-on-Wet Method)
Apply a stripe of Bitumen WB on the floor, slightly wider than your fleece roll. Immediately lay the fleece onto the wet surface. Apply another coat of Bitumen WB on top of the fleece until it is fully covered.
-
Step 7: Continue Floor Application
Repeat the wet-on-wet process. Ensure each fleece strip overlaps the previous by 3 inches (about 7.5cm). Allow the whole area to dry for 1 day before proceeding to wall skirting.
-
Step 8: Skirting Area Application
Use the same wet-on-wet method for the wall skirting (minimum 100mm height). Apply Bitumen WB, embed fleece while wet, and cover with more Bitumen WB.
-
Step 9: Finishing layer
After 24 hours of drying, apply a final full coat of Bitumen WB over the entire floor and skirting area for extra durability.
💧 Optional Water Ponding Test:
After full drying (about 2 days, weather dependent), you may perform a water ponding test to check waterproofing integrity before tiling.
